In 1995, at the age of 25, John founded his first business venture, Vention, Inc. Vention quickly became one of the largest e-business application development firms in the southeastern United States, growing to more than 250 employees. The company specializes in designing and implementing custom software systems aimed at automating legacy processes in industries such as healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, and retail. Just two years into his venture, John was named one of the “Top 40 Under 40” by the Mississippi Business Journal, recognizing his impact as one of the top business leaders in the state.
After his success with Vention, John became the President and CEO of Brighter Health Network, located in Jackson, Mississippi. This integrated healthcare services company focused on improving pelvic health diagnostics and procedures through software, services, and products designed for OB-GYN and urology practices across the country.
John’s expertise in healthcare continued to grow as he took on CIO consulting roles with firms specializing in pharmacogenomics, toxicology, and next-generation sequencing technologies. His work in these areas has given him deep experience in laboratory process management, systems integration, and genomic data storage. In addition, he has managed the implementation of numerous IRB-approved research registries, providing comprehensive management and business intelligence solutions.
John’s extensive knowledge and experience make him a sought-after guest speaker at various industry events. He has lectured on topics related to e-business at conferences and for industry organizations. His leadership was recognized when he was invited to serve on the Steering Committee and Officer Nominating Committee for the Computer and Information Technology Cluster Organization in Mississippi. John Spivey and his wife Olga have been married for 34 years, and they reside in New Orleans with their family. They have four children, and John feels incredibly fortunate to work alongside two of them in the companies he founded. He is passionate about golf, a sport he has enjoyed throughout his life. Additionally, he exercises regularly, a routine encouraged by Olga as a way for him to cope with the loss of their son, who passed away at the age of 27.
The couple’s strong faith has been a guiding force in their lives, and they are active members of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New Orleans. They are well-known in their community for their commitment to service and for their frequent walks together around the city. The church’s focus on serving the community resonates deeply with them, and they contribute both financially and through their time to various ministry organizations across the country.
